Convert centimeters to inches, cm to in to cm

Centimeters and inches are very similar measurement units.  Centimeter is the unit of length, which represents metric measurement system. Also the system is called SI system, or international measurement system, which is confirmed in 1960. All worldwide countries approved the system, except USA, Myanmar and Liberia. It is also used in Great Britain  widely. Centimeter is equal to one hundredth of meter. 

 

In the USA, Great Britain and some other countries an inch is still used. Inch is unit of Imperial measurement system. Its origin is from Ancient Rome and meant 1/12 of foot. But in 1960 it was equated to a certain amount of centimeters. So, now we can exactly confirm, how many cm in an inch. This measuremet unit is equal to 2.54 cm. It is also said, that it conforms to the thickness of thumb. In some European countries there are certain objects, which are measured using inches. For example, the length of nails. Also the diagonal of monitors are measured by inches. That's why this measurement unit is not removed from usage for its exotic nature. It will always be used in different countries for various purposes.

 

So it is good that there is a choice, which measurement units to use. The world becomes much more diverse. However sometimes it is possible to mix what units to use. Then it is not quite clear what measurement units are chosen for measuring important things.
