Poland (Polish: Polska), official name: Republic of Poland – an Eastern European state. It is located mainly on the Central European Plain and in the northeastern part of the mountainous regions of Central Europe. The Baltic Sea washes it from the north. The total area of ​​Poland is 312,658 km² (it ranks 69th in the world and 9th in Europe by area). The Baltic Sea coast is low, with long sandy spits and beaches bordered by dunes. In the south, the plain turns into a hilly-moraine relief belt of the Baltic Ridge: the Pomeranian and Masurian lake regions, separated by the Vistula Valley. There are mountains in the southern part of the country: in the west – the Sudetes; in the east – the Carpathians. Between them is the Moravian Gate pass, through which the trade route from North to South Europe has long passed. Two main Polish river systems belong to the Baltic Sea basin – the Vistula and the Oder.

Polish cuisine is quite diverse and original. In many components, it is similar to Ukrainian and Polish cuisine, but with the introduction of elements of the culinary tradition of the Germans and the Baltic peoples. Dishes are usually very hearty; there are few herbs and spices, but they are used very skillfully. Of the meat dishes, the famous sausages, ham with horseradish, veal steak, tenderloin with potatoes in onion sauce, veal brains with herbs, chicken stewed in sour cream with tomatoes and red pepper, baked duck "kachka", cabbage with smoked breast "pozhibroda", goose with apples - such well-known "sauce", goose with apples. "zrazh", stuffed goose neck, hare pate, pork leg with pea puree "golonka" and wild boar steak. Guests of the country should try the meat and sauerkraut dish, fried cabbage with boiled vegetables "flyaki".

 

Poland is a country of "soups", with hundreds of their varieties. Good vegetable soups are beetroot soup "botvinka", cabbage soup "kapusnyak", potato, vegetable, and grain soup "krupnyak", broth with meatballs and pieces of meat "rosol", pasta soup "zacherka" and sour cream soup "zureka". Also popular are fish dishes - the famous fried pike, fried fish with horseradish, herring salad, herring in sour cream sauce, Polish carp (the carp head is served separately and is considered a festive dish), carp, tench or bream in Polish sauce, fish balls in sauce with gherkins, hunting soup, perch roll, cod or pike, etc. Pastry products are an indispensable attribute of the traditional table, in addition to the famous dumplings ("pulpets"), which go well with many dishes, popular cheese cakes "syrniki", pastries with potatoes, cheese or mushrooms "perogi", lasagna with crackers, "ears" with filling, etc. Traditional Polish desserts - pies "Mazurek", "makovnik".
