Our planet contains about 7 700 000 000 human inhabitants. It means 7.7 billions people.

 

Overpopulation is a the occurrence where the number of people in a country or any other region of place for that matter, outweigh the resources that can be sustainably provided for that locality. For this reason, it stands as a threat to comfortable livelihood and sustainable development. The government has therefore dimmed it fit to come up with various measures to address the social concern.

 

1.    Environmental degradation stands as the most threatening challenge due to this global concern as it threatens the very survival of the human kind. This is because by degrading the environment, it makes it unsustainable for human life or simply uncomfortable.

 

This follows the fact that when the population is unmanageable, government support becomes strained and therefore not everyone is given a hand to do better. When this happens, people tend to withdraw to lives of poverty and suffering. At the same time, the overall slots for employment become unable to accommodate everyone who is in search for employment, leading a majority to a life of poverty and suffering.

 

The absence of enough housing that can be considered to be affordable to a common citizen only leaves the alternative of resolving to more manageable means which therefore translates to slum areas that have the characteristic of being overpopulated.

 

Pollution is a social concern that is further enhanced when there is overpopulation particularly because of difficulty in managing wastes coupled with the need to increase production. For these reasons, industries strive to increase production, while at the same time operate on as minimum costs as possible. This cause a compromise that is manifested as environmental pollution.

 

Crime is another social vice due to overpopulation as it manifests when there is a lot of idleness in a particular place. This idleness draws from the limited number of opportunities in terms of employment that an unlimited number of people seek for. With this kind of shortage, most people are left idle hence resolve for crime to make a living.

 

Overpopulation means that the number of people available outweigh by a significant margin, the number of opportunities and therefore resources available at their disposal. The few opportunities available are quickly grabbed thus depletion.

 

This is because of the diversity in terms of culture and morals when many people come together. As such, good people are influenced into bad as well as the spread of diseases and bad vices from the bad to the good.

 

Overpopulation yields competition and thus demand. When the demand is high whilst the supply is limited, living standards tend to hit the roof.

 

Due to this social problem, there are excess levels of carbon (IV) oxide in the atmosphere as respiratory gases. Also, the need for proper settlement compels cutting down of trees and consequently global warming in the long run.
